On October thirty-first, Rio Mesa had its annual Halloween costume contest in the quad! The contesting costumes were the emotions from Inside Out, the IB Learner Profiles, Faust, from the game Guilty Gear, a Ravenclaw from the book series Harry Potter, a Serbian soldier, Doodlebob from Spongebob, Hatsune Miku, a Japanese Vocaloid, Linguini, a chef from the Pixar movie Ratatouille, a medieval knight, Sally Face, Cooper from the movie The Trap, the Chosen One from the Matrix, an astronaut, a SWAT officer, Little Red Riding Hood, Woody from Toy Story, and two best friends. The winner was chosen through an Instagram poll on Rio Mesa’s ASB account, @rmhsasb, students, teachers, and parents alike could vote on their favorite costume. The winner was Leidi, who dressed up as a grandma during the competition.
However, that’s not all the competition Rio Mesa had to offer this past Halloween! During the lunch of October thirtieth, we held the annual pumpkin carving contest. The pumpkins would be judged on a general favorite, scariest, and funniest! Students could vote on which pumpkin fit each category best. The scariest pumpkin was a bunny, the funniest was a pumpkin painted to look like Doodlebob and the favorite was a pumpkin painted as Hello Kitty. Even though the other entries didn’t win, they were still a great showcase of Rio Mesa’s creativity. Make sure to participate in one of these competitions next year!
